CHOIR CAMP Kenyon College, Ohio
Choir camp is a valuable part of a chorister's life. Once a year young people from the choirs of St Paul's pack their belongings and set off for a week of music and fun at Kenyon College, a beautiful leafy campus situated in the small town of Gambier, mid-Ohio. Choristers take part in many different activities, including learning new musical repertoire, art, crafts and games, as well as just hanging out with their friends. At a recent camp we paid special attention to two complex and contrasting works - Missa Brevis by Benjamin Britten, and I saw the Lord by John Stainer. Choristers had great fun recreating the drama of the Stainer piece, and the spectacular results formed the centerpiece of an art exhibition displayed in the choir room in the fall.
